Introduction

Problem 1: Athletes want to participate, but need to invest their own money to purchase a Gnar. How can we get athletes involved without requiring them to spend their own money?

Problem 2: That’s Gnarly needs a decentralized registry and content verification system to prove that athletes are who they say they are and the content they submit is actually their own. How can we develop a decentralized method for athletes to join the ecosystem, verify their identity, and work their way up the sponsorship tiers?

Solution: A decentralized, tiered verification system powered by Gnars voting on thatsgnar.ly.

Description

thatsgnar.ly voting is a method that does not require the NFT to leave your wallet. Coupled with athlete profiles on thatsgnar.ly I believe this offers a potential solution for Gnars to back/vouch for athletes as being legitimate and open the doors for onboarding without requiring distribution of Gnars NFTs from the treasury.

The first tier (Level 0) is for unverified Gnarly contributors. Anybody is eligible to participate at this level and only requires submitting content to thatsgnar.ly along with an ETH address. This is similar to how thatsgnar.ly functions currently.
The second tier (Level 1) is for initial athlete onboarding, introduction, and verification of identity plus contact info for future use (thatsgnar.ly, proposal tracking, etc)
The third tier (Level 2) is the first step for athletes to become official Gnars athletes as it opens up the opportunity for them to be paid directly by the DAO and gives them the ability to submit proposals without requiring them to invest their own money in purchasing Gnars. At this tier, they are eligible to submit a proposal for up to 1 ETH to move to Level 3 and become an official Sponsored Athlete.
The fourth tier (Level 3) is for athletes who have successfully passed an on-chain proposal to be sponsored by the DAO, but serves as stepping stone to becoming a full fledged Gnarthlete. At this tier athletes will receive a welcome/proliferation pack which will include branded merch for them to wear, and paper noggle and stickers for them to distribute to their community. They also become eligible to submit a proposal for up to 3 ETH and move to Level 4 to become a Core Gnarthlete.
The fifth tier (Level 4) is for Core Gnarthletes who have been around for awhile and demonstrated they are serious about contributing to the Gnars ecosystem. They have successfully participated in thatsgnar.ly, the Flow Team, and have passed on-chain proposals. They also have sustained significant support from the DAO in the form of staked votes for a moderate duration of time. At this tier athletes are eligible to submit proposals for up to 6 ETH and subsidized branded Gear (not free at this time, but hopefully in the future we have the treasury and revenue to provide this type of equipment to Core Gnarthletes).

Athlete Tiers

• Post a video to preferred platform with the athlete stating they’re joining the gnars ecosystem (alternatively - include a unique verification code in the caption of a post or profile bio similar to Vulcan verification?)
• Receive a minimum of 10 staked vGnars (see notes below)	• Equal 50/50 split of http://thatsgnar.ly/ mint revenue from submissions
• Submissions aren’t subject to the lockup and challenge period anymore. Instead there is an ability to report submissions as fraud which causes immediate removal of submission and suspension of submissions from that athlete. (Requirements for fraud reporting to be determined - “quorum” of reports?)
Level 2	Flow Team	• Completed Level 1 verification
• Receive 120 votes (equivalent to the holding requirement for submitting proposals)	• All Level 1 benefits
• Eligible to submit a proposal to be elevated to Sponsored without personally owning the minimum number of gnars

Level 4	Core Gnarthlete	• Passed 2 on-chain proposals (1 ETH and 3 ETH max)
• Maintain 480 votes for a minimum of 3 months (this time requirement should be easy given previous level requirements of 1 month on flow team and passing an on-chain proposal which typically includes a 3+ month sponsorship)	• Increased funding available through proposals (up to 6 ETH)
• Subsidized official Gnars branded gear available (helmets, jackets/uniforms, kites, skateboards, surfboards, snowboards, skis, etc)
